Leaving feedback on drafts and submissions

How to leave comments on drafts, submissions, and resubmissions.

Student submissions can be in two states:

  • Draft: The student is still working on the assignment. At any point, a teacher can peek in on their working document and leave live comments for them.

  • Submitted: After the student submits their work, teachers can leave comments and a grade that they can explicitly return by hitting "Return grade".

Drafts

best for live, in-class writing

Submissions

best for assignment checkpoints

In-progress work: Comments appear live on a student's document

Submitted work: Teachers can leave comments and a grade. These appear only after they hit "Return Grade" to release the grade.

Teachers can release grades for individual students or in bulk via the assignment page.

Students can revise their work based on the live comments.

Students can view a teacher's comments and grades.

When their draft is at a completed stage, students can submit and let their teacher "Grade" their work.

Resubmissions: If a student's assignment is unlocked, students can also access their working draft and resubmit. Teachers can review prior submissions and comments, and grade the next draft.

NOTE: Students will not see your comments on a submission unless you return grades after leaving the comments.
