Beta: We’re slowly rolling out this feature as we test and improve it. If you run into any issues, please let us know!
Before getting started, please make sure:
Your school has enabled Google permissions within TrueMark (see below)
You and your students have access to Google Drive through your school accounts.
What's new?
The new Google Docs mode allows you to create TrueMark assignments on top of Google Docs! A Google Doc is automatically created for each student when you publish.
Students will work in their managed Google Doc instead of the TrueMark editor and you'll be able to enable almost all TrueMark features (e.g turn on lockdown mode, manage their access, enable the rubric-checker, etc)
While grade, you'll be able to grade directly in their Google Docs and get assistance based on your rubric.
Getting started + Verifying Permissions
Verify Google Drive access
Head to Google Drive, and make sure you're signed in with your school email account. After you create a TrueMark Google Doc assignment, we'll create a TrueMark folder in your Google Drive, where we'll create and manage a Google Doc for your students.
Verify TrueMark Permission access
In TrueMark, begin creating a new assignment. Select "Google Docs" as the Student writing environment. Make sure it says Beta (you may need to hit cmd+R or ctrl+R to refresh if you were recently added to the Beta).
Then, you can finish setting up the assignment and enabling integrity or AI-support features as you normally would.
Verifying Permissions: If you're able to select "Google Docs" as the student writing environment, your permissions are set up correctly. The first time you select this, you may be prompted to sign into Google. If you see an error, please contact us.
Student experience:
Tips for your first assignment
On laptops, we recommend that students use the Chrome browser. On iPad devices, students will need to use the Safari browser.
After you publish your assignment, you'll see a folder in your Google Drive called TrueMark. This may take a few minutes. Within that, there's a folder for your class, and then for your new assignment. Finally, you'll find a Google Doc for each student's work (under their
last name, first name). If anything goes wrong, these are the backup documents students can work through.
Troubleshooting
1. Ask students to work in Google Chrome
For best results, we recommend that students use the Chrome browser.
If students are using Safari, they may need to adjust some settings to enable access to Google Docs within TrueMark. They should go to Safari > Preferences/Settings > Privacy and ensure that "Prevent cross-site tracking" is not checked.
2. Ensure the students are a part of your class in TrueMark
Especially during the first week of school, when class rosters may still be changing, make sure your roster in TrueMark is up to date. TrueMark uses this roster to create a Google Doc for each student.
You can re-sync your roster with your LMS once per day. To check or update your roster, find your class and click Students.
